As well as the magnificent fortress, Palamidi was full of wonderful plant life and in particular, a lot of early autumn wildflowers. So I thought I'd do a post just on them.
Not moss, but masses of seed leaves carpeting the ground
Cyclamen on the steps
Valerian?
No idea!
A tiny fern growing in wall-cracks
A sunflower!
A tiny bulb; each inflorescence is no more than 1cm long
Prickly pear cactus on the cliffs
No idea! This was no more than a centimetre high
Yes, I know she's not a wildflower...
Ican't remember what this is called but it's common in Mediterranean countries
More cyclamen
Lichens
Irises in leaf
Another of the tiny bulbs in flower
More cyclamen, growing in what looks like a doorpost hole
Seedpods of some kind of genista
This was growing by the gate; no idea what it is but it was a small tree, with foliage rather like tamarisk
A silver-leaved plant with some wild thyme growing through it
Wild echinops!
A campanula? Or a gentian? No idea, but very lovely whatever it is
Something miniature from the Lamiaceae
